Description of the Degree Programme
Students in this programme will learn how to manage and develop computer networks, network servers and server applications. To ensure high quality education of the latest technologies, we offer both CISCO Networking Academy and Microsoft IT Academy courses. The Degree Programme in Information Technology is a truly international degree program, with students from all over the world.
Pedagogically we rely on active learning methods, e.g., laboratory work and working life-related projects. Turku University of Applied Sciences is a member of the CDIO initiative (www.cdio.org) for continuous development of engineering education. Most part of the education will be arranged in the evenings and at the weekends.
Our former students of this programme work in various positions in the ICT sector, e.g., as private entrepreneurs or in companies developing and maintaining communication networks.
We are looking for students with an engineering mind and a strong background in Mathematics, Science and English from their upper secondary school. An important requirement for this programme is work experience in IT branch.
Selection criteria
Entrance requirements, general eligibility for higher education studies:
Finnish upper secondary school or matriculation examination, a vocational qualification of at least three years duration or a non-Finnish qualification that gives right to university studies in the homeland or the country of departure.
Copies of the final certificates need to be attached to the application form. Only the final certificates are accepted. Good written and oral command of English will be proved in the entrance examination. The applicant should have gained at least two years of work experience since the age of 18.
Language requirements
Applicant who is not a citizen of an EU/EEA-country must provide proof of his/her English language skills by 16 April 2010 16.15 Finnish time at the latest to the admissions office of TUAS.
In order to prove the applicant’s English language skills, he/she must provide one of the following minimum requirements:
• IELTS score academic level 6,0 or
• TOEFL score 550 paper-based test/ 213 computer-based/ 79-80 internet -based test, or
• grade C in the Finnish matriculation examination in advanced level English (IB-examination grade 4 completed in Finland, Reifeprüfung-examination grade 7 completed in Finland or EB-examination grade 6.00-6.95), or
• skills level 4 in English in the Finnish general language examination (www.oph.fi =>

Both TOEFL and IELTS test results are valid for two years.
The Finnish general language examination does not have a set date of validity. TOEFL score results are only accepted directly from the Educational Testing Service. Turku University of Applied Sciences has applied for a Designated Institution (DI) code from ETS – Educational Testing Service, which means that an applicant who will take a TOEFL test can allow the test organiser to send the official test score report directly to TUAS. Applicants can use the code when they register for the TOEFL test and indicate our institution as a score recipient. The TOEFL code of Turku University of Applied Sciences is 0792. Applicants can also provide in the registration form the name and address of the institution where they want their official score reports to be sent.
In addition, upper secondary level school education in English completed in Great Britain, Ireland,the United States, Canada, Australia or New Zealand or Bachelor’s or Master’s degree completed in English in one of these countries, is also accepted as a demonstration of sufficient English language skills. Higher education degree conducted in English completed in Finland will not be considered as sufficient proof of language skills.
Admission procedure
The international degree programmes for adults are not included in the joint application system. The application form with required enclosures must arrive at our Admissions Office by 16th of April 2010.
The following enclosures are required: photocopies of original certificates, proof of applicant´s English language skills (only Non EU/EEA-citizens), and transcripts of the education and of work certificates. All documents must be officially translated into Finnish, Swedish or English.
All admitted students are required to present the original documents and certificates at the beginning of the studies.

Entrance Examination:
The final admission will only be based on the entrance examination. The entrance examination will be organized in Turku and probably in some European countries (Latvia, Russia). Note that all eligible applicants will be invited to the entrance exam.
