Health Care and Well-being Services Host International Week

In addition to the fact that there are more and more multicultural customers, also the number of employees with different cultural backgrounds in the work community of Social Work and Health Care has increased. It is also common for the members of the Finnish staff to go to work abroad.

The opening seminar of the International Forum was held on Tuesday at Ruiskatu Campus with a video connection to Salo. The guests were welcomed to Turku with an introductory video that was made by the students of the TUAS Arts Academy. The International relations manager  Kirsti Virtanen welcomed the guests to Turku University of Applied Sciences and introduced the functions and goals of TUAS.

Welcome also to Athens

Stelios Parissopoulos

One of the guests Stelios Parissopoulos from T.E.I. Athens welcomed all the students and teachers to visit also Athens.

 –A big city can be a challenge for the Finnish students but at the same time it can offer new experiences from the old cultural city and experienced education from specialized teachers, told Stelios Parissopoulos.

International knowledge sharing in Turku and Salo

During the international week the students of Health Care and Social Work had the chance to develop their intercultural competence and get in contact with 20 international guests from different countries: Greece, Belgium, The Netherlands, Russia, Czcech Republic, Turkey, China, Botswana and Swaziland. 

After the opening seminar on Tuesday the guests had visits and meetings. On Wednesday the Specialists in Health Care visited the premises of Salo where Andre Buimer from Windesheim University of Applied Sciences gave a lecture about Ethics and euthanasia and Filiz Hisar from Turkey told about Public health care in Turkey. On Thursday the specialists in Social Work held a seminar on Accessibility and Multiculturalism in Welfare Sector. The introduction to the theme was given by Dr. Keitseope Nhtomang from the University of Botswana.
