Universities like ours can help solve big European and global challenges.” Professor John Brooks, the vice-chancellor of Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), is convinced of the added value of a strategic consortium of European universities of applied sciences. On 30 April 2012, he therefore signed the cooperation agreement of the Consortium on Applied Research and Professional Education (CARPE). The occasion was an exchange on European collaboration in the field of applied sciences between Professor Huib de Jong, vice-president of HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, and the directorate of MMU. According to Huib de Jong, one of the initiators of CARPE, the added value of the participation in MMU is the high reputation and large regional impact. The other CARPE-partners warmly welcome the new member in their strategic network and look forward to further collaboration. The collaboration with MMU was initiated when its academics took part in the first CARPE-conference in November 2011.
