ContextArts Academy at Turku University of Applied Sciences
Cultural education in Turku has a long history. The Turku School of Fine Arts was established in the year 1830, Turku Conservatoire in 1962 and Turku School of Arts and Communication in 1991. The traditions of these educational institutions are preserved within the walls of Turku Arts Academy. International Arts AcademyTurku Arts Academy has wide international links with European and Nordic institutes of higher education and professional groups and individuals involved in the field of arts. This educational strategy presents great potential for the development of an international perspective for the students and teachers. Arts Academy is in co-operation with European institutes in the Netherlands, the UK, Portugal, Belgium, Poland, the Czech Republic, Estonia and Latvia via the SOCRATES/ERASMUS programmes. In Nordic countries we co-operate with Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Denmark and Greenland via the Nordplus-programme. These activities include student exchanges and a variety of teacher exchanges as well as intensive projects. Beside these activities, Arts Academy students participate actively for instance in film festivals and other competitions around the world. For international students, the school offers lectures and workshops in English in co-operation with other programmes at Turku University of Applied Sciences. For educational transparency and recognition of credits we have adopted the ECTS-system at Turku University of Applied Sciences . Our five degree programs are:
