The traditional, Zagreb-based animation festival Anima and its Student Competition Selection Committee grants yearly an award to the best educational institute offering animation education, based on the animated films submitted to the festival. This year, the award was given to the animation training at TUAS Arts Academy. The members of the Animafest Student Competition Selection Committee, Vanja Andrijević, Andrea Martignoni and Miloš Tomić consider the value of the animated films produced by Arts Academy to lie in their compelling visuality and storytelling, and in the animators’ ability to give the key to the solution to the viewer: Turku Arts Academy seems to be something like an oasis far there in the north. An oasis of wild and enigmatic images, absurd humour, surrealistic perception; films of mysterious ends that ask a puzzled viewer to untie a story "till the end" or take that enigma with them like a new "feeling of life". The works of three animators that graduated from the Arts Academy in 2011 were selected in the Student Competition series: Animafest Zagreb takes place in Zagreb, Croatia on May 29 – June 3, 2012. With its forty-year-old history, the festival is the second oldest in its field in Europe. Animafest is organised yearly.
