This year’s national mood has been a little gloomy, but many background variables have already started to grow. From the point of view of the University of Applied Sciences, this can be seen, for example, in the fact that our students are again more in demand for internships and thesis projects than in the previous couple of years. It predicts that next year, the availability of talent will again be a key obstacle to growth in some sectors. We will get by!
You, our working life partners, are the party for whom we exist. The goal of Turku University of Applied Sciences is to produce new expertise and new experts in Southwest Finland. The development projects we have carried out with you and the guidance you have provided in teaching planning show us the direction towards a better future on a daily basis. The expert speeches you have given and your active involvement in our students’ activities truly earn my deepest respect and gratitude.

A warm thank you to all of you for 2025. Together, we can make the end of the decade a success story for Turku, Salo, Southwest Finland and our entire country.
Before that, however, there is a moment to take a breather. Year-end holidays are the times when you should focus on the most important things in life, whatever they are for each of you. I sincerely hope that each of our partners will be able to give themselves a chance to escape from their daily hustle and bustle and just enjoy rest and peace.
I wish all our partners a very peaceful festive season and an inspiring year 2026.
Vesa Taatila, Rector of Turku University of Applied Sciences
