Welcome to the Critical infrastucture protection: Joint seminar for HUSKI and USVA projects!

How can critical infrastructure be protected in an increasingly complex security environment?

The joint HUSKI and USVA seminar brings together experts from research, industry and public organisations to explore future solutions for protecting critical infrastructure. The programme combines perspectives on hybrid threats, resilience and autonomous systems, with special attention to maritime and offshore environments that are becoming increasingly important for energy security and societal resilience.

In addition to the HUSKI and USVA projects, the event showcases results and collaboration opportunities from related RDI initiatives, including SeDaTe, RoboSea, SignalSafe and Low Altitude Economy hub, demonstrating how research and innovation can support practical security and operational needs.

The seminar will take place on Thursday, 10 December 2026 at 9.00 – 15.00 (EET), at the Joki Visitor and Innovation Centre, in the Cave hall and lobby area at Lemminkäisenkatu 12b, Turku.

The main programme will be divided equally between the two projects. HUSKI hosts the morning session from 9.00 to 11.00, focusing on hybrid threats and critical infrastructure, while USVA hosts the afternoon session from 12.00 to 14.00, focusing on autonomous systems for maritime critical infrastructure protection.

How to reach Turku? Arrival instructions

By air

It is quite convenient to arrive in Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. There are long distance bus connections and a train connection leaving approximately every hour from the airport to Turku. The traveling time between Helsinki-Vantaa airport and the Turku bus station is about two and a half hours. Please check the connections to Turku from “By bus” or “By train” guidance below.

There are several international flights arriving directly in Turku Airport. The airport is 8 kilometres from the city centre, which can be reached by taxi (approx. €25) or by local bus number 1 (c. 3€). If your arrival time to Turku Airport is after the last bus and there is no taxi to be found, you can order one by using the service phone which is located near the exit on the arrivals level of the terminal.

By bus

The national long distance bus service Matkahuolto departs from local bus stations all throughout Finland and also from Helsinki-Vantaa airport. The final stop in Turku for long distance buses is at the Turku Bus Station (linja-autoasema) which is located at the city centre.

There may be a change of bus in Espoo during the trip from Helsinki-Vantaa airport to Turku. The bus personnel will inform you about the change and your luggage will be transferred by the bus personnel.

Another possibility is to use the bus service Onnibus.

Both bus services have online offers on tickets. Usually you get the tickets cheaper if purchased in advance.

By train

The national train company VR departs from the local railway stations all throughout Finland. There are two railway stations in Turku:
(1) The Turku main railway station (rautatieasema) which is at the city centre at Ratapihankatu 37, Turku and

(2) Kupittaa railway station that locates about 1.5 km from the Turku city centre and next to the Turku University of Applied Sciences campus and the venue Visitor and Innovation Center Joki. Only the trains coming from the direction of Helsinki stop at Kupittaa, and Kupittaa is last stop before Turku main railway station stop.

Usually you get the tickets cheaper, if purchased in advance.

The seminar is organised jointly with Business Finland funded projects HUSKI – Protected Critical Infrastructure Against Hybrid Threats and USVA – Uncrewed Surface Vessels for Automated Maritime Critical Infrastructure Protection.

In addition to the HUSKI and USVA projects, the event showcases results and collaboration opportunities from related RDI initiatives, including Regional Council of Southwest Finland funded projects SeDaTe – A Secure Data Platform for Business Development and RoboSea – Development of Waterway Transport with Automation and AI, SignalSafe – Safer and More Efficient Maritime Navigation (funded by the European Council, Helsinki-Uusimaa Region and Regional Council of Southwest Finland).
