In the AiWo project, Turku University of Applied Sciences develops AI- and XR-based solutions to support industrial fieldwork operations. The goal is to improve productivity, safety, and workflow fluency by creating new human‑centric collaboration and guidance models. Turku UAS contributes expertise in markerless object recognition, privacy‑preserving video processing, and immersive XR‑based collaboration solutions. The project combines research, industrial use cases, and rapid prototyping together with company partners.
The AiWo project aims to develop human-centred solutions based on artificial intelligence and XR technologies that support industrial fieldwork and improve productivity, safety and quality of work. The project will combine the latest research on marker-free machine vision, automatic activity recognition, contextual guidance, and remote and local forms of industrial collaboration.
The project is driven by a common need for companies to modernise their field work, where documentation, fault finding and knowledge transfer are often manual, slow and error-prone processes. AiWo is responding by developing AI-enabled tools to automatically identify work steps, support installers in real time and improve the use of data in industrial environments. The project will work closely with research institutes and industry to ensure that the solutions can be directly applied in the field.
