The Better Paimionjoki project aims to reduce nutrient loading into the Paimionjoki River and, ultimately, the Archipelago Sea. By improving the river’s ecological condition, the project also supports biodiversity and strengthens climate resilience in agriculture across the region.
A key focus is safeguarding the vitality of the river’s only natural trout population. While the project covers the entire Paimionjoki catchment area, special attention is given to the sub-basins of Tarvasjoki, Painionjärvi, and Vähäjoki, where targeted actions will be prioritized.
The project implements water management and restoration measures based on existing research and studies. Success relies on close collaboration with landowners, understanding local needs and experiences, and organizing training and advisory events.
Better Paimionjoki complements the Paimionjoki Association’s action program.
