The project develops SMEs’ understanding of how EU regulation works and what impacts it has on businesses. We support SMEs in advancing carbon neutrality, improving energy efficiency and transitioning to more circular business models. We also develop tools for monitoring and tracking companies’ carbon neutrality targets and sustainability reporting.

EU sustainability regulation has expanded significantly in recent years. As a result, it has become particularly challenging for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in supply chains to keep up with regulatory-related actions. We support companies in this work by developing an operating model for corporate responsibility reporting. This model provides practical guidance on how to collect the data required for corporate responsibility reporting and on which areas companies should focus their future development efforts.

The project also demonstrates, together with companies, the tools needed to collect corporate sustainability reporting data, as well as new circular economy business models and low-carbon energy solutions. A public guide compiling these solutions will be produced, enabling companies to begin their own regulatory reporting process.

The main target group of the project consists of SMEs operating in Southwest Finland that are part of supply chains, primarily within the maritime industry network. The project is aimed at companies that are indirectly affected by the EU’s carbon neutrality and sustainability targets through their role in the supply chain. The project benefits companies that have not yet conducted sustainability reporting or have not yet transitioned their operations toward lower-carbon or circular economy–based practices.
