Developing Medication Safety in Social Services through AI Assistance (SALUTE) is a Co-Creation phase project aiming to establish a research based shared understanding of the risks, competence-related factors, and development needs associated with medication safety in social services, as well as to identify how artificial intelligence and data analytics can support their management.

In social services, medication management is often carried out in decentralized, everyday work situations where risks arise from the interplay of professional competence, the operating environment, and organizational structures. Unlike in healthcare, these phenomena have not been systematically examined from an AI perspective. SALUTE addresses this identified research and development gap.

The project brings together a multidisciplinary network of research organizations, wellbeing services counties, and companies. Through collaboration, the key phenomenon field of medication safety in social services is structured, principles for the responsible use of artificial intelligence are defined, and research and development questions are identified in which large-scale learning and competence datasets can be utilized. Particular attention is given to competence data generated in digital learning environments and its potential for analyzing risks and competence gaps at the organizational level.

SALUTE lays the foundation for a subsequent Co-Innovation project, the aim of which is to develop AI and data analytics based, responsible, and explainable solutions to support medication safety, risk management, and data driven leadership in social services. The long term objective is an internationally scalable solution for the European social services market.
