Domestic value chain for the further processing of end-of-life textiles and hemp fibre – The KAPOJAT

Duration of the project
Source of funding
Helsinki-Uusimaa regional council
Total funding
335 496 €
The KAPOJAT project develops domestic value chains that utilize hard-to-recycle waste textiles and eco-friendly hemp fiber. The goal is to support the market suitability of new, responsible, and sustainable products. We bring together companies, producers, and experts to develop products and processes based on airlay technology.
A domestic value chain for downstream processing of discarded textiles and hemp fibres The KAPOJAT project will address the global fibre shortage, reduce textile waste and support the market uptake of more responsible and sustainable products by developing new types of refining and products using airlay technology.
The aim is to create a KAPOJAT ecosystem of actors in the textile and hemp value chains and to increase its competitiveness and know-how.
The aim is to create a KAPOJAT ecosystem of actors in the textile and hemp value chains and to increase its competitiveness and know-how. During the project, various experiments will be carried out to verify the quality and other characteristics of raw materials, processed and finished products and their suitability for the market.
We identify and address gaps and investment needs in natural and recycled fibre value chains. Our aim is to identify the benefits of using new raw materials, for example through environmental calculations, and to communicate these benefits to target groups. This communication will take place through channels such as coffee mornings, chains, benefit hubs and LinkedIn.
The target groups of the project are companies in Southwest Finland that apply airlay technology and related pre-treatment and downstream processing technologies in the value chains of natural fibres and fibres that are difficult to recycle.
