The IKÄMONI project develops interprofessional learning and supervision for health and social care students in services for older people. The project develops and pilots an interprofessional clinical placement model and a pedagogical supervision framework in collaboration between Turku University of Applied Sciences and the Wellbeing Services County of Southwest Finland. Students from different professional fields learn to work together in authentic client and service situations, while clinical supervisors strengthen their skills in supervising interprofessional student teams. The aim is to create a model that can also be applied in other health and social care learning and practice environments.
The IKÄMONI project is developing and piloting a multidisciplinary training model and a pedagogical guidance framework in the assessment and rehabilitation units for older adults within the The wellbeing services county of Southwest Finland (Varha). The goal is to strengthen the capacity of social and health care students for multidisciplinary collaboration and to develop professionals’ pedagogical skills in guiding multidisciplinary learning.
In this project, students from various fields work in a multidisciplinary manner in real-life client and service situations. The learning process is based on the client’s needs and experiences, and students collaborate in planning care, rehabilitation, and services. At the same time, the project develops instructors’ pedagogical skills and practical tools for guiding multidisciplinary student teams.
The operating model is being piloted in four assessment and rehabilitation units for older adults. Feedback from the pilot will be used to develop and evaluate the model before it is integrated into regular operations.
The project will result in a multidisciplinary training model, a pedagogical guidance framework, training materials, an evaluation report, and recommendations for expanding the model. The results will be published openly so that they can also be utilized in other educational and operational settings in the social and health care sectors.
