Development Project for Reforming Public Health Nurse Education

The purpose of the project is to develop national recommendations for implementing the renewing public health nurse education. In addition, the aim is to support the implementation of the legislative amendment and the launch of the new model of education. The project is coordinated by Laurea University of Applied Sciences, with all other universities of applied sciences providing public health nurse education participating as project partners.

The project will be implemented as a collaboration between universities of applied sciences offering public health nurse education (n = 18) during the years 2026–2027, with a primary focus on 2026.
The project is coordinated by Laurea University of Applied Sciences. Work packages 2–4 are led by Laurea UAS, LAB UAS, and Tampere UAS. Other participating universities of applied sciences will take part in the work assigned to their designated work packages and, in addition, will participate in comment rounds related to the work of other work packages.

The content of the project

  • Work Package 1 is responsible for project coordination as well as internal and external communication. The work package is responsible for organizing project meetings and establishing the project steering group. The coordinator participates in the activities of all work packages. Work Package 1 is also responsible for preparing the publication produced within the project in collaboration with the other work packages.
  • Work Package 2 is responsible for developing student selection processes and for drafting and writing a national recommendation related to student selection. In addition, the work package contributes to the work of other work packages by providing comments when requested.
  • Work Package 3 is responsible for developing the curriculum and for drafting and writing a national recommendation related to the curriculum. In addition, the work package contributes to the work of other work packages by providing comments when requested.
  • Work Package 4 is responsible for developing cooperation with working life partners and clinical placements, as well as for drafting and writing a national recommendation related to these areas. In addition, the work package contributes to the work of other work packages by providing comments when requested.
