Responsible pre-personal skills in the tourism and catering sector

We pilot a new training program to promote responsible management skills

Our aim is to design and pilot a new expert training program together with companies in the sector to ensure that a lack of management skills does not become an obstacle to business success in the tourism and catering sector. The expert training is aimed at those currently working in, or seeking, managerial positions in the field. The program seeks to enhance and update the skills of the workforce, particularly in terms of responsibility (ecological, economic, and social sustainability).

Nowadays, managers are expected to understand the importance of sustainable development, adopt environmentally friendly practices (e.g., waste reduction, circular economy, ethical procurement), and operate in line with social responsibility, ethics, and economic sustainability.

We are organizing a training program of 25 to 32 ECTS credits from 2025 to 2026. The core content of the study program includes:

  • Responsible business and operational environment in the restaurant sector
  • Responsible purchasing
  • Responsible management work
  • Financial management

The training has been funded by the Service Centre for Continuous Learning and Employment (SECLE). The Service Centre promotes the competence development of working-age people and the availability of skilled labour. The operations of the Service Centre are overseen by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.
