The Silver Careers project supports the careers of people aged 55+ in Latvia, Estonia and Finland. Many older professionals have valuable experience, but may face challenges related to digital skills and career development. The project responds to these needs by offering a one-year programme combining workshops, practical tasks and international collaboration. Participants strengthen their digital and career management skills while building confidence and expanding their opportunities in the labour market.
The Silver Careers project addresses the challenge of limited labour market opportunities for people of “silver age” (55+) in three countries: Latvia, Estonia and Finland.
This group is not homogeneous, as individuals have diverse life and career paths. However, many older adults are often perceived—and may also feel—less competitive in the labour market. This is particularly linked to gaps in digital skills and a lack of confidence in managing their careers. According to Eurostat, people of retirement age in Latvia and Estonia often wish to continue working mainly for financial reasons, while in Finland, the motivation is more often related to the enjoyment of work. At the same time, studies show that organisations employing more senior staff can benefit from increased productivity, as older employees tend to be loyal, responsible and less likely to frequently change jobs.
To address these challenges, the project will design and implement a joint one-year programme of workshops aimed at improving participants’ work-related digital skills and career management skills. The programme combines face-to-face and online sessions, individual support, practical work-related tasks, team-based activities, and joint international sessions. Employers will be actively involved as a reference group: they will promote the programme to their employees, support participants in defining learning goals, and contribute to the evaluation of the programme.
The project will achieve the following results:
- 140 participants aged 55+ (including some unemployed individuals) from Latvia, Estonia and Finland will take part in the workshops, with 120 expected to complete the full programme
- 80 participants will participate in international mobility activities in partner countries
- At least 30 employers across the three countries will be engaged in supporting the programme and their employees
As a result, participants will improve their competitiveness in the labour market through enhanced digital skills applicable in different workplaces, stronger teamwork and collaboration skills, increased self-confidence, and improved ability to negotiate career opportunities. The project also supports greater cross-border employment opportunities.
