Developing cycle tourism on the EuroVelo Baltic Sea route

People’s interest in cycling is growing. The promotion of cycling is also seen as important by a growing number of levels and sectors of government, as it supports goals such as climate, energy efficiency and congestion reduction, as well as health promotion, sustainable tourism and rural development.

This publication describes the development of the EuroVelo 10 Baltic Sea Cycle Route around the Baltic Sea in recent years and especially during the Interreg Baltic Sea Region-funded Bike across the Baltic (BAB) project from 1 August 2023 to 30 July 2025, and illustrates the state of development of cycle tourism and the measures and results of the BAB project in Estonia, Finland, Poland and Sweden.

It also highlights some general drivers, strategic orientations and best practices for the development of cycle routes and cycle tourism and draws conclusions on the need for further development of the EuroVelo 10 route in the coming years.
