eMAMA implementation handbook, Postgraduate Training Programme in Perinatal Mental Health
eMAMA – Developing Post Graduate Training Programme for Maternal Mental Health in Sub-Saharan Africa is an Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education project coordinated by Turku University of Applied Sciences (Finland) and brings together 9 partner institutions across Europe and sub-Saharan Africa.
The project’s central output is the eMAMA postgraduate training programme: a four-module curriculum on perinatal mental health, delivered through Moodle and supported by a dedicated mobile application, designed for health professionals working in maternal and child health services. The programme is co-developed by all consortium partners and validated across the three African partner countries – Malawi, Namibia, and Zambia – to ensure it reflects the realities of local clinical practice, health system structures, and cultural context.
Beyond the curriculum itself, eMAMA aims to strengthen the institutional capacity of African partner universities to deliver, sustain, and adapt postgraduate mental health education after the project ends. Training of trainers materials, open-access course content, and this implementation handbook are intended to support uptake by institutions beyond the original consortium.
