Research group
Next Generation Embedded and Connected Systems (NEXUS)
We focus on next-generation embedded devices, robotic systems, and wirelessly networked equipment, emphasizing device-level resiliency, reliability, security, and advanced communication solutions. We also carry out applied RDI in intelligent process control and monitoring.

These we examine
- Secure and resilient embedded electronics and edge AI
- Robotic systems with wireless communication in contested environment
- Device‑level security and trust technologies
- Embedded IoT solutions for intelligent process monitoring and control
- Dual‑use‑capable methods and technologies

Our goal is to develop reliable and secure embedded systems that work in demanding and changing environments. We conduct applied research, development and innovation with companies, public authorities and research partners to bring new technologies to real-world applications.

Research and development infrastructure
We have high quality research and development laboratories, which are used in various projects together with the Autonomous and Intelligent Systems (AIS) research group. RDI infrastructures: e/MS Lightning, Remote Operation Center, 5G TestNetwork Turku and EMC Lab.
The EMC Lab specialising in product development provides services for testing and developing the electromagnetic compatibility of products.
Strong project skills
Turku University of Applied Sciences’ Project Office offers support and guidance throughout the life cycle of an RDI project. Our project experts have years of experience and strong expertise in national and international funding programmes. We have more than 200 projects running every year, and our RDI activities have received more than €10 million in external funding.
