A sense of community, networking, and a festival atmosphere. In July, a group of Turku UAS alumni gathered for the first-ever “Alumni Ruisrock” event, which was met with an exceptionally enthusiastic response from the participants.

About twenty alumni from Turku UAS gathered during Ruisrock to celebrate an alumni day together. Among them were winners of VIP tickets in the alumni raffle, alumni recognized for their collaboration with our programs, and the reigning Turku UAS Alumni of the Year.
The day began at Arts Academy, where new festival buddies had the chance to get to know one another, hear the latest news from Turku UAS, and exchange ideas with professionals from various fields. The event was opened by Vesa Taatila, our Rector and President.
For many participants, the best part of the day was meeting other alumni.
“A hugely successful and fun event! It was great to meet new people, hear about different career paths, and at the same time reconnect for a moment with our shared Turku University of Applied Sciences background. It was a great gesture to give VIP tickets to alumni this year,” one alumni remarked after the event.
After the opening ceremony, those who wished to do so continued on a water bus to Ruisrock and the Turku UAS’ Päikkärikontti to experience the atmosphere of the festival grounds. The Alumniappro challenges inspired the alumni—as well as the president—to some amazing performances, and crowd witnessed e.g. human pyramids, flying axes, and children’s songs with a special twist.
The alumni network builds connections
The alumni of Turku UAS form an extensive network that brings together experts from various fields across Finland and around the world. The goal of our alumni activities is to offer opportunities for lifelong partnerships: a sense of community, various benefits and services, collaboration, and opportunities for new learning and professional development.
Alumni are an important part of the Turku UAS community. They participate in industry partnerships, serve as guest experts and mentors, and offer students valuable insights into the professional world and their own career paths.
At the same time, alumni provide the university with valuable, first-hand information about changes in the working life and skill requirements, which helps make education and collaboration even more effective.
Feedback emphasized the sense of community
The feedback received from the event was extremely positive. Participants especially praised the warm atmosphere, the excellent organization, and the opportunity to meet other graduates of Turku UAS.
What a great idea and execution for a first-time event! It also sparked my interest in other alumni activities.
I’m really glad that alumni are finally being recognized as part of the community and that alumni activities are now being actively developed.
It was a really successful event—relaxed enough, and the group activities were a pleasant surprise!
The feedback also confirmed that alumni are looking for various low-threshold gatherings where networking happens naturally around shared experiences. Investing in the event was seen as a strong message on how alumni are considered to be an important part of the Turku UAS community.
The Alumni Ruisrock event showed that the connection to one’s alma mater can remain strong for years, even decades, after graduation. The day together offered opportunities to meet new people, strengthen old connections, and create festival memories that will stay with us for a long time. A warm thank you to all the alumni who attended!

All in all, I loved this Ruissivippi event offered to us, and I’d definitely come back if I were invited.
