Finnish premiere and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No 5

The Sigyn Sinfonietta’s February concert will open with Quamby, an orchestral work by Peter Sculthorpe, one of Australia’s foremost contemporary composers. The work has a strong connection to the darkest moments of Australia’s colonial era, the systematic massacres of Aboriginal people on Mount Quamby Bluff in Tasmania. This is the Finnish premiere of this work.

After Sculthorpe’s composition, before the interval, the orchestra plays the fourth movement, Adagietto, from Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No 5.

In the second half of the concert, the Sigyn Sinfonietta will play Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, perhaps the most iconic cornerstone of classical music, which continues and conveys the emotions that emerged from the fateful theme of Sculthorpe’s work.

The Sigyn Sinfonietta also features students from the Aosta Conservatory in Italy and the Turku Conservatory. Sigyn Sinfonietta is an orchestra of the Turku Arts Academy.

The orchestra’s concerts are produced by music lecturer Mikko Luoma.

The next concert of the Sigyn Sinfonietta will be on 10 April at 18.00 in Sigyn Hall. The concert will include music by Einojuhani Rautavaara and Anton Arensky.

Tickets in advance 10€/6€, at the door 13€/8€
