Rukkanen is a hilarious and adventurous wordless play in which an ordinary cuckoo takes on a very unusual life! When Rukkanen comes to life, he embarks on an exciting journey that takes him from a puddle of water to the deck of a pirate ship – and ultimately to the glittering depths of space.

Along the way, you’ll encounter not only pirates and trick horses, but also everyday challenges: how to brush your teeth when the temptation to brush everything but them is overwhelming, and how to smoothly put on a shirt with far too many sleeves?
Rukkanen is a wordless children’s theatre performance that turns familiar everyday situations into playful adventures, inviting children and adults alike to look at everyday life from a new angle. Through puppetry and physical expression, objects – shoes, spoons and even puddles – come to life and reveal the power of a child’s imagination.

Funny, touching and relatable, this performance gives children the opportunity to identify their own feelings. For adults, it is a gentle reminder of how big and meaningful even the small challenges children face can be. It’s a warm and laugh-filled moment where the whole family can dive into the wonderful world of a child’s imagination. The performance is part of the City of Helsinki’s Children’s Culture for Everyone campaign. The performance is supported by the Brita Maria Renlund Foundation, thanks to which it will be taken to reception centres around southern Finland.

The performance is wordless, so it can be enjoyed by all children and adults, regardless of language. This makes it ideal for multilingual audiences.
