AIMO – Artificial Intelligence + Music = Opportunities

Duration of the project
Source of funding
European Social Fund (ESF+)

Total funding
379 622 €
The AIMO project explores and pilots the use of artificial intelligence in the music sector from pedagogical, artistic, and business perspectives. The aim of the project is to clarify which AI solutions are suitable for supporting the work of music professionals and how they can be used responsibly, purposefully, and in ways that strengthen professional expertise.
Within the project, AI applications relevant to the music field are mapped and tested, and recommendations based on these explorations are produced in the form of articles and instructional videos. All music genres are taken into account, with particular emphasis on the artistic and pedagogical contexts of Western art music.
The AIMO project does not develop its own AI systems. Instead, it operates as an exploratory and interpretative bridge between the music sector and artificial intelligence.
Objectives
The objectives of the AIMO project are to:
- identify AI solutions available for different stakeholders in the music sector
- assess the suitability of AI for supporting teaching, artistic work, and professional development
- explore the potential of AI in developing new revenue models and enhancing professional visibility
- produce understandable, practical, and ethically informed recommendations for music professionals
- examine the impact of the project and the development of AI-related competencies within the target groups
Target groups
The project’s target groups include:
- performing musicians and artists
- instrumental and vocal teachers
- principals and curriculum planners responsible for music education
- freelance professionals and entrepreneurs in the music sector
- event organisers
- music distributors and producers of recordings
- developers and expert organisations within the music field
Key Themes
The project pays particular attention to:
- AI as a support for teaching and pedagogy
- AI as a tool for artistic work and practice processes
- the use of AI in sales, marketing, and entrepreneurship
- sharing, documenting, and productising musical expertise
- ethical and professional boundaries of AI use
- project impact and participant experiences (using the Sensemaker® research method)
Project Implementation
The project follows a use case driven and experimental approach. AI solutions are tested within authentic musical and pedagogical contexts, and their benefits and limitations are evaluated from pedagogical, artistic, and business perspectives.
The results of the project are published as expert articles, instructional videos, and a research report.
