The Teollisuuden Älyratkaisut project strengthens the digital and sustainable transformation of manufacturing SMEs in Southwest Finland. It develops and pilots artificial intelligence solutions that improve productivity, resource efficiency, and working conditions in real industrial environments. Through practical demonstrations and close cooperation with companies, the project helps small and medium-sized manufacturers understand how AI can be used to optimize production, reduce waste, and support human-centered work. The project contributes to the EU’s green and digital transition by making AI an accessible and trustworthy tool for industrial competitiveness.
Developing smart and sustainable manufacturing
The Industrial AI Solutions project (Teollisuuden Älyratkaisut) supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Southwest Finland’s manufacturing and food industries in adopting artificial intelligence (AI) and automation.
Its goal is to enhance the competitiveness of these companies, improve production efficiency, and optimize resource use, enabling them to meet the challenges of industrial digitalization and sustainable development.
SMEs often lack the resources or technical expertise needed to implement AI and automation.
This project offers them a practical, low-risk, and cost-effective way to explore and test AI solutions directly within their own production environments.
As a result, companies gain the capabilities to utilize AI for business development, supporting economic growth and strengthening the regional industrial base of Southwest Finland.
The project’s implementation is based on four industrial pilot companies, where production data is analyzed, and AI solutions are tested in real manufacturing settings.
In addition, 20 SME interviews will be conducted to provide a comprehensive overview of the current needs and challenges related to AI and automation adoption.
At the end of the project, a regional dissemination event will be organized, inviting over 100 companies to ensure broad access and practical use of the results.
Main Objectives:
- Developing SMEs’ AI and automation readiness – The pilots and interviews provide concrete examples of how AI can benefit and transform industrial operations.
- Analyzing industrial data and applying AI – Identify what data can be used for AI applications and how production processes can be optimized through data-driven methods.
- Leveraging companies’ own insights – Workshop-style, face-to-face interviews allow a deep understanding of company-specific needs, guiding the practical implementation of project results.
- Strengthening collaboration between research and industry – The project connects SMEs, research organizations, and regional development actors to foster long-term cooperation and new innovations.
- Supporting regional growth and competitiveness – Through AI and automation, SMEs can enhance their operations and respond more effectively to global competition.
The outcomes and impact of the project extend far beyond the pilot companies and are designed to benefit all manufacturing SMEs in Southwest Finland. Results will be published openly, and dissemination will be supported by collaboration networks such as Business Turku, Ukipolis, Teknologiaklusteri, and Valonia, ensuring effective regional reach.
The TeoÄly project supports the regional development goals of Southwest Finland, including the Southwest Finland 2040+ Strategy, and aligns with both national and EU strategies for AI and digitalization. It provides SMEs with a tangible opportunity to apply AI and automation without major initial investments and lays the foundation for long-term industrial renewal and growth.
