In the Skills for Diversity project, we develop user-oriented digital materials that strengthen social and healthcare professionals’ competence in encountering gender and sexual orientation diversity. The materials combine theoretical knowledge, functional exercises and self-directed tasks to support the development of equal and sensitive service processes. All content is co-created with current and future professionals and published openly for broad use
The Skills for Diversity project aims to strengthen social and healthcare professionals’ ability to provide equitable and sensitive services to clients with diverse gender identities and sexual orientations. Although professionals increasingly encounter gender and sexual diversity in their work, both education and practice still show gaps in knowledge, confidence, and inclusive communication. This project addresses these needs by creating open, user-centered digital materials that support equality in service processes and improve client experiences.
The project begins with focus group interviews with current and future professionals to identify competence needs and to build a theoretical framework for the digital materials. The content is co-designed in workshops with target-group members and integrates theoretical knowledge, functional exercises, and self-directed tasks. The materials are piloted in several organisations and based on feedback, refined into a final version that is published openly for broad use.
Through this work, the project promotes equality, enhances rainbow-sensitive service culture, and increases trust in social and healthcare services. The digital materials will remain publicly accessible after the project ends, ensuring long-term impact in both regional and national development efforts.
