Welcome to Turku UAS Master’s Degree Programme’s (Master School) Entrance Exam!

The entrance exam for Turku UAS Master of Engineering degree programme in Industrial Quality Management, Online is organised as online exam on 28 March 2023 at 12.00 noon - 2.00 p.m. Finnish time (UTC+3). The exam instructions and assignments are published on this page on 28 March 2023 at 11.45 a.m. Finnish time (UTC+3).

There is no pre-material for the entrance exam but the applicant will answer to the assignments related to the Master studies by using the material given in the exam. The language of the entrance exam is English.

Those who are already accepted in the certificate-based selection are not required to take the entrance examination. Admission results in certificate-based selection are published before entrance examination in My Studyinfo -service.

Preparation for the exam

You need a reliable internet connection and a computer with an up-to-date internet browser and a text editor. It is recommended to take the exam in a quiet space.

Instructions for the exam

Write the answers to the assignments first with a text editor and only transfer the answers to the e-form before submitting. The maximum number of characters for text is limited. You can check the appropriate number of characters using Word, for example, as instructed by Microsoft. By default, Word displays the word count in the bottom bar, and you can click it for more information, including the number of characters, or "Characters (with spaces)."

Answers are submitted by copying them to an e-form that indicates too many characters. In this case, you will need to edit the answer to a suitable length before saving the form.

Time for taking the entrance exam

Time for taking the entrance exam is on 28 March 2023 at 12.00 noon - 2.00 p.m. Finnish time (UTC+3). 

Submitting the entrance exam assignments

Open the e-form link at 1.45 p.m. at the latest to make sure that you will be able to send the assignments before the deadline. Please note that sending the assignments during the last minutes can take longer since there are many applicants doing it at the same time. If you have opened the e-form well in advance, please refresh the page before sending the assignments. E-form does not save the answers automatically, so if the session has been open for too long, all the answers may disappear when refreshing the page.

When you have copied your assignments to the answer fields on the form, check that your final answers are in the correct form. Please note that if the answer you enter is too long, the form will automatically cut the excess number of characters. In this case, you will need to edit the answer, before saving the form. When you have checked the answers, send them with Save-button in the end of the page form by 2.00 p.m.

After submitting, the form opens a window telling you that the submission was successful. You will also receive a confirmation email stating that the submission was successful.

Entrance Exam Assignments

Write your assignment answers first with a text editor (for example Word or notepad). Remember to save the text in the editor during the writing process.

Assessment: 0-100 points. You must obtain at least 20 points from the entrance examination in total to be considered for admission. In addition, both assignments must be passed.

Assignment 1

Choose one of the following quality philosophers: W. Edwards Deming, Joseph Juran, Philip Crosby, Armand Feigenbaum, or Kaoru Ishikawa. Write a response max 3 000 characters (NOTE! The maximum length also includes punctuation marks and spaces) describing the key ideas and contributions of your chosen philosopher to the field of quality management. Supply at least two examples of how their ideas have been applied in real-world situations and explain the impact these applications had on quality outcomes. Finally, briefly explain why you believe your chosen philosopher's ideas are still relevant today. You are free to use the internet while searching for information on quality philosophers. Please ensure that your response adheres to academic conventions.

Write the answer in English.

Maximum score is 60 points. Minimum requirement is 12 points to be considered for admission. The evaluation criteria: 

  • Content, maximum 50 points
  • Academic conventions and language, maximum 10 points

The maximum length of the answer is 3000 characters/answer. (NOTE! The maximum length also includes punctuation marks and spaces) 

 

Assignment 2 

Draft a thesis proposal outlining how your research interests and goals contribute to your overall career development. Explain the significance of your proposed research and how it will advance your understanding of the quality management field. The maximum length of the answer is 2500 characters. (NOTE! The maximum length also includes punctuation marks and spaces)

Write the answer in English.

Maximum score is 40 points. Minimum requirement is 8 points to be considered for admission. The evaluation criteria:

  • the reasoning for the chosen thesis subject content and relevance to career development, maximum 20 points;
  • clarity and coherence of chosen thesis proposal, maximum 10 points;
  • originality and creativity of chosen subject, maximum 5 points; and
  • academic references and citations, maximum 5 points.
